sweating for the wedding

sweating for the wedding

i really need this tank top.

we got engaged in march (yay!!!!!!!!!!), and i have been struggling to get in wedding shape since then. i just love food so much. i love it more than i love being thin. which i am ok with most days, but i have a feeling i won’t be ok with that on july 12th, 2014.

so–i am now sweating for the wedding. profusely. i have signed up for my fifth 1/2 marathon in march, and i am hoping to convince jis to do the flying pig full marathon with me in may. it will be our first, and it will ensure that i at least move my ass to earn those nachos.

yesterday was my 2nd 10k! i am officially a medical center 10k classic streaker. they haven’t posted official results yet, but i fear that i am several seconds slower this year than i was in 2012. that is ok though. i was out with my injury for a month, and i barely ran at all from november to june. it was also a freaking mess outside yesterday.

i got out of bed around 7 for the 8:30 start time. i piddled around deciding if i wanted to wear a tank or tee and capris or shorts. i ended up wearing a nike tank and athleta shorts. if i had known it would rain the whole time i probably would have stuck with the capris. i got online and refreshed weather.com every ten seconds while i ate my pb & honey uncrustable and drank some water.

jenny arrived at 7:45 and we made our way to the bypass to park. we met up with the other ladies running it with us, and i was happy to see kristen had a tank on as well. as soon as we started walking to the start line i knew that i would be plenty warm in the 55-degree weather. OF COURSE it start sprinkling right before the gun went off. i am mostly happy with my mizuno wave inspire 9s, but for some reason they have NO grip when the ground is wet. i asked another runner who was wearing the same ones if she agreed and she did! must be something about that style.

mile 1 seemed to drag on like it always does, but miles 2 and 3 were kind of a blur. i do remember getting passed by tons of runners on every uphill. i have got to start adding at least 1 hill day every two weeks. especially if i don’t want to die at run the bluegrass. at mile 4 i was pissed because tidball had passed me. granted he is a dude who is in MUCH better shape than i am, but it was still a little sad. by this point it was full on raining. and it was windy. every single turn seemed to bring on more wind. the first half of mile 5 i was concentrating on holding pace and making it through the last few turns and hills. i felt a weird pop in my right hip, but thankfully it isn’t bothering me post-run. by the second half of mile 5 i was desperately trying to find katy perry’s “roar” on my ipod so i could have a strong finishing song. i finally found it and sprinted a couple of strides out of excitement. one of the things i really love about the 10k classic is that you get to run the football field to the finish, but this had me so scared yesterday because of the wet ground and my slippery shoes. i don’t feel like i pushed myself or sprinted nearly as hard as i usually do when i can see the finish line. if i had i might have been able to snag a pr yesterday. nevertheless, i did finish in under an hour, which made me very happy. kristen was right behind me, followed by shellie and jenny. we looked around for the food for a minute, and then jenny and i decided to go on home since we couldn’t feel our hands.

the 10k classic is fun and definitely a bowling green tradition, but the organizers need to really step it up. the t-shirt is scratchy cotton, the swag bag doesn’t have ANY swag, and it was way too difficult to find the post-race goodies. i can’t really comment on the expo, because i was so hungry and tired friday night i didn’t even look around.

next weekend is ragnar tennessee. crossing my fingers that i survive.
